UPDATE: The full source code is now available on www.harefort.com for anyone to look at and be inspired by. A Shader Prototype that I’m working on. It can be used in any next-gen engine. Features: – no unwrapping required – no texture-seams – terrain may deform at runtime – 4 terrain layers – blending-masks for terrain-mixing – tailor-made painting-tool for 3Dsmax The shader and the painting-tool are still WIP.

    Eigentlich war das ganze für Spiele gedacht, aber da so viele Leute sowas für 3Dsmax haben wollen, werde ich mich damit auch beschäftigen, wenn ich die Zeit.

    Wie lange das dauert kann ich nicht sagen.

    Momentan bin ich auf Job-Suche und kann deshalb nicht an dem Shader arbeiten.

    thats pretty cool, do you add all textures initialy and what your painting is just a mask on the procedurals? is that what it does? thats cool whatever it is.

    When adding the diffuse textures, I’m receiving the following error: “Unknown property: “ColorTexture1″ in SeamlessShader:DirectX_Shader.”

    I’m running 3ds max 2009, so I’m guessing that only v8, v9 and 2008 are supported at the moment.

    I’m receiving almost the same error runing in 3dMax 9. In my case is “Unknown property: “ColorTexture4″ in seamlessShader:DirectX_Shader. ” .

    BTW: awesome!!!

    In your case, it may be that you’re using the wrong shader. Only “seamless_shader_nobranching_vertexcolor_3dsmax8.fx” will work with 3ds Max 9.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    I just tried it on max 8-2009 and it worked on all of them.
    For 8 and 9 you have to use the seamless_shader_nobranching_vertexcolor_3dsmax9.fx file. For 2008 and 2009 use the seamless_shader_nobranching_vertexcolor.fx file.

    Gimme a yell, if it still doesn’t work.

    Unfortunately you cannot render directX shaders in 3dsmax’s renderer by default.
    So you’d need to find a plugin or a renderer that can render directX materials.

    I heard they used something like this in HL2 Episode 2 for the antlion caves, because it was too oddly-shaped to texture with UV mapping.

    Impressive.
