Having an issue I can’t reconcile. When I change the permalinks, I lose a my images, including my navigation buttons. Ideas?

  • rhandellmitchell

I’ve been trying this since last night… when I put the % in my link it shows them and there are no dashes in my keywords… When I don’t use the % my links don’t work at all???

  • wordpresshowtos

Sorry to hear you having problems. Try adding the “/” as well to front and the end. So for example: /%postname%/

but will you lose traffic traffic, if you change the structure
a prominent WP person wrote this:
Once you get your site indexed in the search engines and start gaining inbound links, you
would destroy your traffic in an instant by changing your permalink structure so take the time
to get it right the first time.

Thanks for this video! It was really helpful and clear.
I bought “WordPress for Dummies” and it was not a great at explaining this as your video.
    Way to go!

Not at all. Simply put a 301 redirect on your URL’s that you’ve changed. By doing this you’re letting the search engines know where you’ve moved your link.

Plus since you’re using WordPress you can use a plugin to do this, especially if you don’t know much about changing your htaccess files.

I would recommend these plugins (they can be found in the WordPress Plugin Directory):

    - Redirection
    - Simple 301 Redirects

I often find youtube videos hard to read text, too blurry

  • wordpresshowtos

@ZinfandelRed1914 Sorry about that. All you need to have in that field is /%postname%/

That’s it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • ZinfandelRed1914

No need to be sorry, seems to be a shortcoming of youtube. Thanks a mill for replying and all the help offered, appreciate it.
